The Village of Parma is a planned community, operating under a state-required Master Plan that guides land use and helps maintain consistent standards for property, buildings, and other structures throughout the Village.

Permits are required for most construction projects and property improvements. This includes, but is not limited to:

• New construction or placement of primary or accessory structures

• Alterations to primary or accessory structures

• Installation of fences

• Installation or modification of driveways

**A Zoning Compliance Permit is typically the first step in starting a project on your property, except for interior renovations within an existing home or structure. However, interior projects may still require the appropriate permits depending on the scope of work.

Once the Zoning Compliance Permit has been approved, any additional required permits may then be issued.

Seasonal Permits are also required for recreational campfires and can be obtained at the Parma/Sandstone Fire Department.  (Note:  All other forms of burning (yard waste, trash, leaves) is prohibited in the village.)

If you are unsure whether your project requires a permit, please contact the Village Office before beginning any work. Projects started or completed without a required permit may result in additional fees, fines, or the issuance of a Stop Work Order.​

A one-time $20 administrative/processing fee is charged when permits are issued. This flat fee covers the initiation of the permitting process for your project, regardless of the number of permits required. Additional fees may apply for specific permits, as applicable.

Required Inspections: If a permit requires follow-up inspections, the fee is $80 per inspection. The property owner or their designated representative is responsible for scheduling inspections with the appropriate inspector. Projects requiring a permit will not be considered complete or in compliance with zoning requirements until a final inspection has been conducted and approved.

If submitting your application by mail, please include a check or money order for $20 made payable to the Village of Parma. Cash payments are accepted for in-person submissions at the Village Office.
